Red Oak Strategies has provided Excel/VBA software to support system configuration and marketing activities relating to automated camera surveillance systems.   Red Oak Strategies has:

  • Designed and developed a system configurator that interacts with a user in the configuration of video cameras, Sun servers, video recorders, storage peripherals and associated components.    Only valid and viable components are presented in menus of options and configuration rules and requirements are enforced.    Upon request, a valid and formatted quote is produced with discounts and totals calculated automatically;
  • Automated price list generation for various regions of the world, including thumbnails of each product and price in the local currency, with a feature to apply the reseller's discounts;
  • Automated a tool to process forecasts of sales up to three years in the future for different regions of the world, including auto-populating of product descriptions and prices in the local currency.   A tool to amalgomate regional forecasts and convert to $USD is included.

Red Oak Strategies is a registered supplier of consulting and software services to the federal government.   Red Oak Strategies has provided services to the following government departments:

Department of National Defence, HQ VCDS

Development of Excel/VBA workbooks and Access databases to facilitate business planning and budgeting.

  • Design and implement an Excel/VBA workbook utility suitable for the Vice-Chief to distribute to DND Level 2 organizations to capture their business planning expenditures;
  • Design and implement an Excel/VBA utility to input all completed workbooks of organization data and to generate statistical reports and graphical results useful for DND business planning;
  • Designed and implemented an Access database to handle all data relating to minor DND projects ;
  • Enhanced the Access database that is used by the Comptroller to manage budget changes during the year. Added new reports and corrected functional flaws.

Industry Canada, Repayments & Recoveries

Access 2010 Database Developer.

  • Survey current users of a financial database and define current requirements;
  • Upgrade Access 2003 functionality to Access 2010;
  • Upgrade the Access database to meet current functional and reporting requirements.

Department of National Defence, IM/IT

Development of an inventory and asset tracking MS Access database.

  • Performed a requirements analysis and documentation;
  • Implemented tables and forms for maintaining a parts list and collection of quotations from suppliers;
  • Implemented tables and forms to support the procurement and ordering process;
  • Implemented tables and forms to support the receiving and tagging of assets and functions for producing financial summaries of committed and actual expenditures over the required number of fiscal years;
  • Implemented a hierarchical bill of materials breakdown report for a configuration of assets;
  • Management, procurement and engineering staff can access the database concurrently to update and track the data in their respective areas..

House of Commons Administration, Procurement Sector

Development of an MS Access 2007 database to support the procurement process.

  • Analyzed and documented requirements for data capture of procurement projects including extensive schedules of events;
  • Implemented forms and functions for multi-user access and uploading schedule of events data from Excel workbooks;
  • Implemented dashboard reports for managements with colour coded indicators and filters for selective workload reporting;
  • Contracted for continuous support on a part-time basis.

National Research Council, Systems Development Branch

Analysis and enhancements to an MS Access 2007 database.

  • Analyzed database performance and recommended enhancements and efficiences;
  • Implemented a generalized query and report generator to replace multiple forms with a single form;
  • Resolved functional issues with embedded macros, subforms and subreports;
  • Documented a comprehensive database manual.

Canadian Food Inspection Agency

Analysis and software for a new job classification standard.

  • Characterizing work and quantifying its value for a range of classification levels;
  • Assigning weights to work elements and points to degrees of sophistication;
  • Defining and writing a suite of generic work descriptions to represent the range of jobs done in the organization;
  • Implementing Excel/VBA utilities to analyze the impact of various work element weights and point assignments to degrees for all generics;
  • Implementing Excel/VBA utilities to manage a database of personnel data and mappings to the generics, including salaries and a forecast cost of conversion.

Visual Basic software for the Human Resources branch.

  • Access/VBA database of personnel data for particular groups;
  • Statistical Excel/VBA reports relating to personnel;
  • Excel/VBA utility to manage and monitor grievances;
  • Forecasting utility for payroll costs for five years, parameterized by percentage increases per bargaining group;
  • Excel/VBA utility to register, monitor and record dates of requests for service made of the Human Resources branch.

Farm Products Council of Canada

Upgraded an MS Access/VBA database for maintaining a record of and indexes to incoming and outgoing correspondence.

Infrastructure (Transport) Canada

Implemented an MS Access/VBA database for monitoring contribution agreements and budget information relating to infrastructure projects.

PWGSC Utilities Management Services

MS Access databases, Excel spreadsheets and Lotus/LotusScript spreadsheets were provided for the analysis of operational data and testing of new meter data acquisition systems.

PWGSC Finance Department

An Excel/VBA package for managing financial commitments and year-to-date expenditures on smaller contracts.


   Padgett Business Services, Arnprior

Padgett Business Services provides accounting, payroll and financial advice to small businesses in the Ottawa Valley.    At Padgett, Red Oak Strategies provides:

  • Excel/VBA Utilities for clients to submit monthly data to the accounting office by email.
  • Software to automatically backup files for multiple computers on the network.
  • Excel/VBA utilities for personal financial management (e.g. Net Equity Calculator).
  • Bookkeeping services using Excel and Simply Accounting.

   Giant Tiger Headquarters

Giant Tiger is a major Canadian discount retail chain with popular stores mostly in smaller municipalities in Ontario and Quebec.    The GT chain is experiencing steady growth and is expanding into western Canada and the USA.    At Giant Tiger headquarters in Ottawa, Red Oak Strategies has provided:

  • Excel/VBA Utilities supporting the importing process with quote sheets, financial analysis and computer-generated purchase orders.
  • Software utilities which input data from a relational IBM AS/400-based database of sales and merchandise data to generate custom reports.
  • Sophisticated analytical, sorting, sub-totaling and summarizing software presenting colour-coded results.

Red Oak Strategies provides Manulife clients with specialized one-on-one computer training with a rehabilitative orientation.
